Patrick Cox, by DanielSchaefer
As a tribute to the great British footwear industry, the Cordwainers’ Company has recorded a series of podcasts with the brightest and the best in footwear. In Their Shoes charts the funny, inspiring and revealing footwear journeys taken by the men and women who have left their footprints on the world.
Patrick Cox, the maverick shoe designer whose Wannabee loafer became the ‘must-have’ fashion item of the 90s, is the latest footwear star to join the conversation with Katie Greenyer. In an extended interview Patrick talks about his peripatetic childhood between Canada and Africa and his early days as a self-professed fashion victim with a driving desire to be noticed.
He recalls his time at Cordwainers Technical College and the opportunity to work with the brilliant and mercurial designer Vivienne Westwood which gave him the key breaks he needed on his celebrated footwear journey. He chats about building his own brand ‘Doors of Perception’ and looks forward to the next chapter in an extraordinary design career.
