Contributing to the Coronation

The Cordwainers are very proud contributors to the Coronation Anointing Screen, which has been designed and produced for use during the Coronation service of King Charles III.

A gift from the City of London Corporation and participating City Livery Companies, the screen combines traditional and contemporary sustainable embroidery practices to produce a design which speaks to His Majesty The King’s deep affection for the Commonwealth. His Majesty is a keen advocate and supporter of the preservation of heritage craft skills, and the anointing screen project has been a collaboration by specialists in traditional crafts, with significant contributions made by members of the Worshipful Companies of Broderers, Drapers and Weavers.

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Nicholas Lyons said: “While many things have changed since the last Coronation, one thing that remains the same is the City’s unstinting loyalty to and support for the Monarchy. The City Corporation and Livery Companies are proud to contribute to the most sacred part of the Coronation ceremony.”
