Judgement day has been and gone for the Cordwainers National Footwear Student Awards 2018. Fifteen talented students from De Montfort University, the University of Northampton and Cordwainers at the London College of Fashion have submitted designs for this coveted award and the winner will be announced on 7 June at Clothworkers’ Hall.
Highly respected members of the footwear trade, the judging team is composed of Katie Greenyer, Creative Director of Pentland Brands, Guy West of Jeffery West and designer Atalanta Weller. This year they are joined by guest judge and keynote speaker Camilla Elphick.
Liveryman Katie Greenyer is committed to nurturing the design talent of tomorrow. With a background in textile design, she has worked with Red or Dead, Vivienne Westwood, Dr Martens and Christian Lacroix. In addition to her design work at Pentland, Katie is World President of the Textile Institute.
Liveryman Guy West is one half of the award-winning Northamptonshire footwear brand Jeffery-West. Artistic and design director, Guy co-founded the company in 1987 and numbers Leonardo Di Caprio, David Beckham and Elvis Costello among his clients.
Liveryman Atalanta Weller is a graduate of Cordwainers College and an award-winning designer. Her ground-breaking sculptural shoes form part of the V&A’s permanent collection and have a strong celebrity following, from Lady GaGa and Jessie J to Sienna Miller and Halle Berry.
We are delighted to welcome British footwear designer Camilla Elphick as this year’s keynote speaker and guest judge. Another graduate of Cordwainers College, Camilla Elphick founded her eponymous label in 2014, which won critical acclaim from her very first season. With a firm belief that good shoes make a lasting first impression, Camilla has worked with industry leaders such as Nicholas Kirkwood and Charlotte Olympia and her signature style has won a huge following in the fashion world.
