Liveryman Tom Salt wins Atlantic Challenge

Posted by: Sally Bell Date: 06 Sep 2014

The Company sends huge congratulations to Liveryman Tom Salt, who with his rowing partner Mike Burton, has won the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

Tom and Mike set off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to row across the Atlantic, making landfall in Antigua after a 3,000-mile voyage lasting 40 days, two hours, thirty-eight minutes and fifty-four seconds. Along with 16 other teams, they left La Gomera on 4 December and arrived in Antigua after a relentless schedule of rowing two hours on, two hours off, battling enormous waves, tropical storms and a close encounter with a 6-metre marlin.

Tom was met in Antigua by his proud (and relieved!) family, as well as Past Master Charles Fairweather who has sent these pictures of Tom’s arrival.

Tom and Mike were raising funds for the Generous Hearts Foundation and their blog with a gripping account of their voyage, can be read here.
