The Master of the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers represents one of the most vibrant livery companies in the City and I have enjoyed every minute of my term of office so far.
I hope to harness all that Cordwainer energy to act as an enabler between the footwear industry and the education sector. To that end, we invited a number of designers and bespoke makers to the first Court Supper of my year, which was held in the Fusiliers’ Mess at the Tower of London at the end of September.
We were delighted to host shoemakers and designers James Dukker of Carréducker; Adele Clarke, Olivia Morris and Tracey Neuls; lastmaker Michael James of Springline Ltd; Cordwainer award winners Helen Kirkum and Claire Burrows; and designer Charlotte Olympia Dellal (pictured above). In her speech, Liveryman Katie Greenyer reminded everyone that Cordwainers can be the thread that stitches together the needs of the footwear industry with the rising talent emerging from our universities.
As we approach our 750th anniversary, it seems more important than ever to ensure that the Cordwainers remain relevant to the footwear industry and that will be our main focus for the forthcoming year.
