The ninth Footwear Friends Annual Awards were held at St. Mary at Hill Church in Eastcheap on October 22nd. The Awards recognise the extraordinary entrepreneurial talent emerging in the footwear industry and are recognised as one of the key awards for developing British design talent.
The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers Award for Innovation, a prize of £5000, was awarded to Swift & Co for developing a new footwear construction that is less labour-intensive, more eco-friendly and lightweight. It combines tradition with technology, while keeping the designs appropriate for today’s market. The award includes a 12-month-mentoring programme by industry experts
Richard Swift, the Managing Director went on to receive another award, the BFA/FN Platform Award, which recognises his company’s commitment to developing a product within the UK which combines comfort and innovation to produce footwear with international potential. Swift and Co will be given the opportunity to showcase their brand on a sponsored stand at the USA’s premier footwear show in Las Vegas
Judges for this year’s awards included two Cordwainers, liverymen Georgina Goodman and Caroline Groves, who joined Rachel King of Clarks and retail consultant Malcom Collins.
