The second Cordwainers National Footwear Student Award will be held at the V&A Museum on 18 June 2015.
Entries have been received from students at Britain’s three ‘footwear’ universities – the London College of Fashion, De Montfort University and the University of Northampton – and judging will take place in mid-May. The judging team are three highly respected members of the footwear trade: Katie Greenyer, Creative Director of Pentland Brands, footwear designer Guy West, of Jeffery-West and shoe designer Atalanta Weller.
The awards ceremony coincides with a major new exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Shoes: Pleasure and Pain, which the Cordwainers are delighted to support. It looks at extremes of footwear from around the globe, and features the work of several members of the company, including bespoke shoe designers Liveryman Caroline Groves and Freeman Atalanta Weller, as well as Liveryman Jimmy Choo.
We’re looking forward to a wonderful evening which will celebrate the best in young British footwear design. To whet appetites, take a look at the short film produced to celebrate the inaugural awards in 2014, which captures the excitement of the evening and explains a little about the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers.
