Held in the stunning surroundings of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the second Cordwainer National Footwear Student of the Year ceremony was a night to remember. With a reference to the V&A exhibition Shoes: Pleasure and Pain, chairman of the judges, Katie Greenyer told the assembled audience what a pleasure it had been to view work of such high standards, and her comments were reinforced by the guest speaker Rupert Sanderson. He reminded everyone that, ‘Tonight is about celebrating what many of us in this room love doing best. Designing shoes’.
The Cordwainer awards celebrate the best in student footwear design and forge links between footwear education and the footwear industry. Judged by three highly respected members of the footwear trade, Katie Greenyer, Creative Director of Pentland Brands, footwear designer Guy West, of Jeffery-West and shoe designer Atalanta Weller, the awards were presented by Jimmy Choo, a liveryman of the Cordwainers Company.
