Harry’s Giant Pledge

The Cordwainers’ nominated charity for 2019-2020 will be the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, and, specifically, our fundraising will go to Harry’s Giant Pledge, which was set up by Past Warden James Shaw and his family in memory of their son Harry.

As I ride around the Kent countryside, the rain and hail are falling and I am soaked to the skin. I ask myself why on earth I signed up to ride 150 miles in a day?

While the rest of the cycling fraternity watched the Tour de France last Sunday, the Cordwainers’ claimant to the yellow jersey, Past Master James Calder, was powering around London in the Prudential Ride London event: 100 gruelling miles in driving rain to raise money for the Master’s charity, the Alzheimer’s Society and FarmAfrica.
